Community Guidelines

Effective June 29, 2026

Convo is a place to host live, episodic group-chat shows and experience them with an audience. These Community Guidelines describe what we expect from everyone here — hosts, members, subscribers, and guests alike. They apply everywhere on Convo: every show and episode, every room whether public, private, or paid, your profile, and any message or reaction you post. They sit alongside, and form part of, our Terms of Service, and our Privacy Policy explains how we handle your information.

Convo works because people trust the rooms they join. The rules below exist to protect that trust. They are not an exhaustive list — we ask you to act in good faith and to use common sense, and we may act on conduct that violates the spirit of these guidelines even when it isn't spelled out word for word.

The basics

Treat other people the way you'd want to be treated. In practice, that means:

  • Be respectful. Disagree without harassment, threats, or hate. Heated debate is welcome; cruelty is not.
  • Keep it honest. Don't impersonate others, run scams, or manipulate conversations through coordinated or deceptive behavior.
  • Respect the room. What's shared in a private or paid room is for the people in that room. Don't republish or leak it without consent.
  • Respect consent and boundaries. When someone asks you to stop or to leave them alone, do.

What's not allowed

The categories below have no place on Convo. Each lists examples to make the line clear — they are illustrations, not the full extent of what's prohibited.

1. Harassment, bullying, and threats

  • Targeted insults, slurs, or sustained unwanted contact directed at a person or group.
  • Threats of violence, or wishing harm on someone.
  • Encouraging others to harass, pile onto, or "brigade" a person, show, or room.
  • Sexual harassment, including unwanted sexual advances or comments.

2. Hate speech

  • Attacking, dehumanizing, or promoting violence or hatred against people based on race, ethnicity, national origin, caste, religion, sex, gender identity, sexual orientation, disability, or serious disease.
  • Using hateful slurs or symbols to demean or exclude.

3. Child safety

  • Any content that sexualizes a minor, in any form. This is a zero-tolerance rule.
  • Grooming, soliciting, or attempting to contact a minor for sexual purposes.

We report child sexual abuse material to the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC) and to law enforcement as required by law.

4. Violence and dangerous organizations

  • Threatening, planning, glorifying, or inciting violence.
  • Promoting or providing material support to terrorist or violent extremist organizations.
  • Coordinating or promoting serious harm, including credible threats to public safety.

5. Exploitation and self-harm

  • Content that promotes, encourages, or provides instructions for suicide, self-harm, or disordered eating.
  • Human trafficking, sexual exploitation, or the sale of people.

If you or someone in a room is in crisis, please contact your local emergency services or a crisis line. In the US, you can call or text 988 to reach the Suicide & Crisis Lifeline.

6. Illegal and regulated goods

  • Buying, selling, or facilitating trade in illegal drugs, weapons, stolen goods, or other regulated items where doing so is unlawful.
  • Fraud, money laundering, or other financial crimes.

7. Adult and graphic content

  • Sexually explicit content in any room that admits people who have not opted into it, and any sexual content involving non-consenting people.
  • Gratuitously graphic or gory content meant to shock or disgust.

8. Privacy violations

  • Sharing someone's private information — home address, phone number, financial or medical details, government IDs — without their consent ("doxxing").
  • Sharing intimate images of someone without their consent.
  • Recording, screenshotting, or republishing what's said in a private or paid room against the room's expectations.

9. Spam, scams, and platform manipulation

  • Repeated unwanted self-promotion, bulk or automated posting, and other spam.
  • Phishing, deceptive links, malware, or attempts to compromise accounts.
  • Artificially inflating listener counts, followers, members, or reactions, and other attempts to game how Convo ranks or surfaces shows.

10. Impersonation and misinformation

  • Pretending to be another person, brand, or organization in a way meant to deceive.
  • Coordinated campaigns to spread false information that could cause real-world harm.

11. Intellectual property

  • Posting or streaming content you don't have the rights to, or infringing someone else's copyright or trademark. See the relevant section of our Terms of Service for how to submit a copyright complaint.

Hosting a show

Hosts set the tone, and with that comes responsibility. If you host:

  • Make your expectations clear. Tell your audience what your show is about and what conduct you expect in the room.
  • Moderate actively. Use the tools available to you to remove content, remove people, and end an episode when a room gets out of hand. You're responsible for what you allow to stand in your room.
  • Don't weaponize your platform. Never use your show to target, harass, or organize pile-ons against individuals.
  • Respect your members. If you run a paid show, deliver what you've described to the people who paid to join, and honor the access they've purchased.

A host who repeatedly tolerates or encourages violations can lose hosting privileges or have the show removed, even if they didn't post the offending content themselves.

Reporting and enforcement

If you see something that breaks these guidelines, report it. Reports help us understand context we can't always see from the outside, and we review them.

When we find a violation, the action we take depends on the severity, the context, and any history. It may include one or more of the following:

  • removing specific content or messages;
  • ending a live episode;
  • issuing a warning;
  • limiting features, such as the ability to host or to post;
  • suspending or permanently banning an account;
  • removing a show.

Some violations — child sexual exploitation, credible threats of violence, and similar severe harms — lead to immediate removal and a permanent ban, and may be reported to law enforcement. Repeated or severe violations lead to faster, stronger action.

We aim to enforce these guidelines consistently and fairly. If you believe we got a decision wrong, you can reply to the notice we send you to ask us to take another look.

Changes

Convo will keep growing, and these guidelines will evolve with it. When we make material changes, we'll revise the effective date shown at the top of this page. Continuing to use Convo after a change means you accept the updated guidelines.
